Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a healthy, happy and prosperous 2014.
Congratulations and a HUGE thank you to all our Brookburn children and staff for entertaining us all with their wonderful Christmas productions. As usual they were high quality performances, on a par with any West End shows and I was immensely proud of the children throughout.
The children from Years 1-6 also enjoyed their annual trip to Stockport Plaza theatre to enjoy the pantomime Dick Whittington. Meanwhile the EYFS children were treated to a performance from Norman Tinsel.
Year 6 entertained our local senior citizens, including some of our own volunteers and children’s grandparents. They were superb hosts, providing refreshments and an interactive, intergenerational festive quiz.
I would like to say thank you to all our wonderful, hard working staff for making Christmas time in school such a magical and memorable time for our children.
If you’d like to check out what your child’s been up to in school this term, take a look at their class blog.
Our website has been updated!
A BIG thank you to Mrs Clarke who has been working hard with our technician to update our school website to make it more accessible for you. Please take a look; we now have downloadable forms and easier access to school information and news for your convenience. We will continue to update the site weekly and you can also access your child’s class blog to share in their learning.

PTA – Friends of Brookburn
The Winter Fair was very successful and thanks to your support we raised £2,700 for school. We are working towards the den project – redesigning the waste land at the rear of the school to create an exciting ‘den’ area for children to explore and take part in forest school activities.
The kind and generous donations parents and carers made towards this year’s chosen charity – ‘Save the Children – Phillipines’ Appeal’ led to a contribution of over £800.00 to the fund. Thank you.

Fundraising for School
www.easyfundraising.co.uk – Remember you can raise money for school by shopping via this website. This internet shopping charity gives you access to hundreds of well known retailers, to do your shopping on line whilst raising money for school AT NO COST TO YOU!
This Christmas and New Year break we are asking all our children to take a selfie of themselves on a mobile phone, ipad ,smart phone, tablet or camera. The idea is to share with us an activity or event that children have enjoyed over the holiday period. It can be anything e.g. visiting family, reading a favourite book, writing a thank you letter for any presents they may have received, having a family day out somewhere, playing with friends and/or family etc.
Please ensure all selfie’s are annotated with an explanation of Who? Where? Why? What? and your child’s name and class teacher.
Remember to print off finished pieces to bring into school in January, where they will be displayed for everyone to enjoy.
All entries will be judged by our School Council, and prizes awarded for the winning male and female entry for each year group.
NB All homework to be returned to your class teacher labelled with your name and class.
Brookburn School has an excellent reputation for outstanding attendance and we appreciate your help in ensuring children are in school, on time, every day. However, this term we seem to have had an unusually high percentage of absence. Whilst I understand that there has been a lot of illness, I politely request your support in getting us back on track in the New Year. We regularly have attendance figures of 97% or higher and sadly this term that has dropped below 96% for the first time.
Thank you for your understanding and support.
Please ensure your child’s belongings are all clearly labelled with their full name so that lost property can be quickly and easily reunited and save you having to buy more!
Collecting children from school
A number of children are not being collected from school at the end of the day. We would ask all parents who have arranged to collect their children from school to do so promptly to avoid their children any distress. Children not collected will be registered with BOSH and this will incur a charge.
Dinner money for this half term is £72.50 payable at the school office.
We are aware that the current economic climate could be making things very difficult, financially, for some families. Please do pop into the office, where you may speak in confidence to Miss Holness or Mrs Clarke if you feel you may need to arrange a different payment plan in order to cover the cost of school dinners. We are always keen to support families in meeting the costs of dinners rather than allow bills to increase to an unmanageable cost or for school to be forced to seek legal help to recover costs.
